RiskyProject is used in aero-space business for analysis of project schedules in different types of projects: mission planning, including cost and duration estimation, software development, hardware component design and development, etc.
directory when RiskyProject is installed:
1. RP_Construction - it is real construction schedule (residential building).
Only few risks are defined to simplify the example
2. RP_BusinessPlan - also real schedule. This example includes cost calculation. You will be able to see a significant difference between Baseline (original) schedule and Results of calculation. Also, take a look on
RP_BusinessPlan_Track1 and RP_BusinessPlan_Track2 - different stages of tracking.
3. RP_Software - it is real software project, however we removed a big number of risks to make everything to simplify the example.
We have very many other examples; however, they are the property of our clients, and we cannot publish them without their permission.
I have been using Risky Project in my consulting with several clients.....
One of them is an Emergency Service organisation - this was on a communications project. There is another one where I am using it in a software development team for a commercial organisation. I am also hoping to use it to model out some workforce changes in terms of the day to day tasks and protocols that they follow....
Finally in my non-work life, I am on the 'council' for an Anglican church..... there is a building project coming up..... so lucky me, I get to use it in my spare time, too!!!!
PS - Perhaps other forum members could add in what they are using it for.... it would be great to see the spread of activities that it is being used for....... Also which partner applications you are using..... then we will get a picture of who knows what and who to ask for help if we need it......
For me .... I use MindManager to get the shape, outline durations, dependencies and resources for tasks..... then it's into Risky Project for the serious stuff..... I am playing with the idea of getting Decision Pro as well.....
I work with a medium sized construction firm and am slowly integrating RiskyProject into our estimation and project tracking.
In the past, we had been using MS Project to do most of our project scheduling and tracking. I started expermenting with RiskyProject about nine months ago by importing my old MS projects into Risky and seeing what happened when I added risks to the projects and compared them to actuals that we had and found that often the results that I was getting out of RiskyProject were closer to the actuals than our orginal estimates.
Past few projects that we have bid on, we have been using MS to do the initial WBS and scheduling and then importing the file into RiskyProject to calculate our risk exposure/profile. We have actually showed our analysis to a few clients on jobs that were cost plus and they were extremely interested in seeing the range of outcomes if specfic risks occured.
It has certainly changed the way that we approach our project estimation.

I am an independent consultant working in an environment that always has a lot of uncertainites and I have been using the Lite version to help me with my contract bids/estimtates. Previously, I put together a WBS and assigned duration and costs and came up with an estimate. Most of my estimates were based on best case. I would then apply a reality factor to it (up to 2.25 depending on the contract) to come up with an estimate.
I have been using the Lite version in attempt to apply a bit more rigour to the process and as a reality check to my intial gut estimates. Along the way I have developed a few risk templates for specfic project types. Having done the exercise several times now, I am becoming more confident in my estimates and I am able to do this analysis pretty quickly.
I don't think that I use even half of the capabilites, most just the summary and dashboard, so I wouldn't consider that I am doing real project risk management, but it has worked pretty well for me.
Anyway, let's here from some others.
I have been testing/using RiskyProject now for about 6 months as part of our construction projects. I am mostly using the tracking function to get a estimate of how the progress will affect the schedules of our future projects.
Our projects aren't very big, lots of resedential right now, so what we are doing is modelling each project as a summary task and linking the summary tasks based on how which resources (teams and equipment) are going to be working on each project.We can have had up to 20 projects going on at once. We then input tracking data and see how this is affecting the finish times for not only the current project, but the other projects. We have found these projections to be quite useful in giving our clients updated estimates for delivery dates.
It is not really sophisticated approach, but it has proven useful in giving us early warning on the probable effect that our current or active projects will have on those that we have planned over the next year or so.
