Re: Virtual Machines for Mac User

Post by Intaver Support »

These are the steps you will need to follow to enable virtual machines for Mac Users. You may want to check the UTM website or user forums to verify.

Using UTM, Mac users can:

• Install Windows (especially ARM on Apple Silicon)
• Run many Windows applications
• Avoid needing Boot Camp (which isn’t available on Apple Silicon Macs)
Note: RiskyProject can be very hardware intensive when running simulations. Ensure that you allocate sufficient resources to VM to account for this.

Before installing UTM, make sure you have:

Hardware
• Apple Silicon Mac (M1/M2/M3) or Intel Mac
• At least 8 GB RAM (16 GB recommended for smooth performance)
• At least 40–60 GB free disk space

Software
• macOS (latest version preferred)
• UTM application
• A Windows ISO or image:
o For Apple Silicon → Windows 11 ARM version
o For Intel Macs → standard Windows ISO

Step 1: Download UTM
1. Go to the official website: https://mac.getutm.app
2. Click Download
3. Open the downloaded .dmg file
4. Drag UTM into your Applications folder

Step 2: Get Windows

For Apple Silicon Macs: Download Windows 11 ARM image (VHDX) from Microsoft https://www.microsoft.com/software-down ... eviewarm64
For Intel Macs: Download a normal Windows ISO: https://www.microsoft.com/software-download/windows11

Step 3: Create a Virtual Machine in UTM
1. Open UTM
2. Click Create New
3. Choose:
o Virtualize (recommended for Apple Silicon + ARM Windows)
o Emulate (if needed, but slower)
4. Select Windows
5. Import your downloaded Windows file

Step 4: Configure the VM

Set recommended values:
• RAM: 4–8 GB minimum
• CPU cores: 2–4 cores
• Storage: At least 40 GB
Continue setup → Save → Start the VM
Step 5: Install Windows
1. Start your VM
2. Follow normal Windows installation steps
3. Once installed, you’ll reach the Windows desktop

Step 6: Install RiskyProject

Inside your virtual machine:
1. Open a browser in Windows
2. Download your desired Windows application
3. Install it like on a regular PC
