Customizing or Modifying risk categories

Post by Ken »

I'm new to RiskyProject Professional and trying to set up the risk management system for my project. How do I customize risk categories and impacts? The defaults like Duration and Cost are there, but I need to add a category for QHSE, can I combine some of the existing categories?!

Configuring risk categories and outcomes is straightforward in RiskyProject Professional and helps tailor the system to your project's needs. Here's how to do it:

1. Open your project and navigate to the Risks tab in the ribbon.
2. In the Settings group, click on Categories and Outcomes.
3. Switch to the Outcomes tab in the dialog that appears.
4. Right-click in the list and select New Item to add a new category or outcome.
5. Use the Indent/Outdent buttons to create a hierarchy—bolded top-level items become categories (e.g., "Quality" or "Security"), and sub-items are outcomes (e.g., "Minor Defect" under Quality).
6. For outcomes, you can define them as labels (e.g., "Critical > 1 year delay"), percentages, or schedule-specific effects like delays or restarts.
7. If you want opportunities (positive risks), use negative values for results (e.g., –2 days for acceleration).
8. To assign weights for impact scoring, go to the Weights tab and use the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method.
9. Once set, click Set as Default to apply these to all future projects, or Restore Defaults to revert.

Remember, schedule-related outcomes like Delay or Cost Increase are hard-coded and can't be edited, but non-schedule ones are fully customizable. After configuration, you can assign these categories when adding risks to your register. If you're integrating with Microsoft Project, these will carry over seamlessly. Let me know if you run into issues!
