How does the Default Calculation for Small Projects options work?

When you load your project into RiskyProject or make changes to it, RiskyProject monitors various parameters to determine the amount of time it would take to run a simulation.

This includes the number or tasks, resources, and risk assignment, as well as the computer resources available which includes the number or cores and RAM. Using this information, RiskyProject determines whether it can run an “instant” simulation (i.e in less than 1 second). If it meets these parameters, it is deemed a “small project” for the purposes of enabling instant calculations.

Because what actual constitutes a “small project” varies depending upon several factors, there are not hard guidelines to on the exact number of tasks etc. We recommend that the default setting should be the Deterministic calculation of Current Schedule only. If you find that you can run simulations almost instantly on your project, you may want to select the Probabilistic calculation option. This will allow you to instantly update your results whenever you make changes to your schedule or risks.

Our recommendation that for all modern computers you should have automatic calculations of small projects enabled. The calculation should not take longer than 1 second.
