How to see Event Chain Diagram?

Post by Omaha 23 » Tue Jan 22, 2008 1:37 pm

I read about Event Chain Diagram as a part of your event chain methodology. Is any way I can see them in RiskyProject? Any particular view or settings?

Event chain diagrams will be implemented in RiskyProject 3, which supposes to be released Q3, 2008. Event chain diagram will present risks with their probability and impact on the Gantt chart as arrows. All Gantt Chart (input data, results, tracking, success rate, etc.) will have the options to display Event chain diagram.

We usually have many mutually exclusive alternatives in event chain diagram. How would suggest to depict them?

Here is a short information about the specification for event chain diagram. This specification is a set of rules, which can be understandable by anybody using this diagram.
1. All events are shown as arrows. Names and/or IDs of events are shown next to the arrow.
2. Events with negative impacts (risks) are represented by down arrows; events with positive impacts (opportunities) are represented by up arrows.
3. Individual events are connected by lines representing the event chain.
4. A sender event with multiple connecting lines to receivers represents multicasting.
5. Events affecting all activities (global events) are shown outside Gantt chart. Threats are shown at the top of the diagram. Opportunities are shown at the bottom of the diagram.

The central purpose of event chain diagrams is not to show all possible individual events. Rather, event chain diagrams can be used to understand the relationship between events. Therefore, it is recommended the event chain diagrams be used only for the most significant events during the event identification and analysis stage. Event chain diagrams can be used as part of the risk identification process, particularly during brainstorming meetings. Members of project teams can draw arrows between associated with activities on the Gantt chart. Event chain diagrams can be used together with other diagramming tools.

We recently posted a presentation regarding RiskyProject 3. You can find a slide with event chain diagram at: http://www.intaver.com/riskyproject_presentations.html. You would see arrows associated with risks (down) and opportunities (up).

For more information about implementation of Event Chain Diagrams in RiskyProject please visit:

http://www.intaver.com/Help3/RP3_Help_R ... Chart.html

Colors represent the calculated the impact of the risk on all project parameters combined. The size of the arrow represents probability. You may click on each risk arrow within a Gantt chart to be presented with information about risks.

I have a couple of global risks (for all task and resources), but I cannot see them on event chain diagram. Did I do something wrong?

Global risks are not shown on event chain diagram. I most cases the Gantt Charts would become unreadable with large number of global risks.
