Summary Task durations incorrect ?

Post by Dwen » Tue Nov 23, 2010 12:14 pm

have Key Milestone Dates row as my summary task. Underneath I have
about 5 milestones and each one has 1 day duration. Should the days
totaled in the "base duration" for Key Milestone Dates are 5 days?
The answer should be yes.

However, in my "live" version of SRA it's listed (i.e) over 500
days, and I'm not sure where the totals are coming from since it
isn't linked to anything.

This is a misunderstanding of duration vs work/effort. Duration is a function of calendar dates. That is it answers the question of if I start on this date when will the project finish, and how many days (weeks, years) duration will it be from start to finish.

So in your example that you sent aftr the previous post the start date 03/03/2010 and finish date 09/08/2012 points gives you your base duration of 658 days based on how your working days are set up in the project calendar (there are days lost due to weekends, holidays etc.)

If each one of those tasks was 1 day of work, then you are showing that you are scheduling 15 days of work over a 2.5 year period.

Hope this helps
