Assign Resources to Tasks
Resources are assigned to tasks in the Resource tab of the Task Information dialog box.
The easiest method of assigning resources is from the Baseline Gantt view, however, this method has limitations:
- You cannot assign different units to different resources
- You cannot type in any comments regarding the assignment
The Resource tab of the Task Information dialog box allows you greater flexibility for assigning resources:
The Resources tab has the following fields:
- Resource name: You can select a resource from the list of available resources or type in a new resource. If you type in a new resource, it is added to the list of available resources that you can view in the Resource view.
- Units: The percentage of the resource’s time allocated to the current assignment. This affects the resource (variable) cost associated with task. If a resource
is allocated at 50%, then only 50% of the resource rate is used to calculate the cost. It also affects risk. If there is risk, assigned to resource, and resource is used only 50% of the time, chance of the risk is reduced by 50%.
